‘NCIS’ Stars Speak Out: Who’s Returning and Who’s Not – Including Emily Wickersham & Mark Harmon

Since its debut in 2003, NCIS has remained a fan favorite, even as its cast has evolved over the years. While only Timothy McGee (Sean Murray) remains from the early days, many former stars are still closely tied to the franchise and fans continue to wonder who might return.

Here’s a look at where some familiar faces stand:

Sasha Alexander (Kate Todd)
Sasha Alexander left the show due to the demanding schedule of network television. While she hasn’t confirmed a return, she has remained on good terms with the cast and producers, leaving the door slightly open. Fans continue to hope for a future appearance.

Cote de Pablo (Ziva David)
Cote de Pablo originally didn’t expect to return after her exit, but she later reprised her role in multiple episodes. She reunited with Michael Weatherly for the spinoff NCIS: Tony & Ziva, showing that her connection to the franchise is still strong, even if future appearances remain uncertain.

Michael Weatherly (Tony DiNozzo)
Michael Weatherly has expressed interest in returning as Tony, calling the character “unfinished.” He briefly came back for a tribute episode and now stars alongside de Pablo in NCIS: Tony & Ziva, keeping the possibility of more appearances alive.

Pauley Perrette (Abby Sciuto)
Pauley Perrette has made it clear she will not return to acting. Since leaving NCIS in 2018, she has focused on living a more authentic life outside of Hollywood, firmly shutting down any hopes of reprising her role as Abby.

Emily Wickersham (Ellie Bishop)
Emily Wickersham initially suggested her departure was permanent after leaving in 2021. However, she surprised fans by returning in Season 23, hinting that Bishop’s story may not be over after all.

Mark Harmon (Leroy Jethro Gibbs)
Mark Harmon has remained open but noncommittal about returning. While he stepped away from the main series, he continues to be involved through NCIS: Origins as both narrator and executive producer, with occasional on-screen appearances.

While some former stars have moved on for good, others continue to revisit their roles, keeping the NCIS universe connected to its past and giving fans hope for more reunions in the future.
