Chris O’Donnell’s Latest Update Might Have Just Ended Hopes for an NCIS: Los Angeles Revival

Hopes for an NCIS: Los Angeles revival may be fading following a major career move by series star Chris O’Donnell.

The actor, who played G. Callen for 14 seasons, has officially joined ABC’s upcoming procedural 9-1-1: Nashville as its lead. He will portray Captain Don Sharpe, a rugged fire captain who runs a busy Nashville firehouse while balancing family life and personal secrets. The new series is expected to premiere in fall 2025 and marks a significant new chapter for O’Donnell.

While this is exciting news for fans of the actor, it also makes the possibility of an NCIS: Los Angeles comeback much less likely at least in the near future. The CBS spinoff ended in 2023 after a long and successful run, and although the finale left room for the characters to return, no official revival plans have been announced.

O’Donnell’s commitment to a new leading role would make it difficult for him to return as Callen anytime soon. Given how central the character was to the show, it’s hard to imagine any revival moving forward without him. His presence helped define the series, and fans would likely expect him to be part of any continuation.

There have been small hints within the NCIS universe that the Los Angeles team is still active, suggesting the door isn’t completely closed. However, without O’Donnell available, a full revival would likely need to wait until his schedule allows or risk moving forward without one of its most iconic characters.

For now, it appears NCIS: Los Angeles has truly come to an end, while Chris O’Donnell looks ahead to a new role in the expanding 9-1-1 franchise.
