Mark Harmon’s Son Shares Big News After Portraying Young Gibbs on ‘NCIS’

Mark Harmon has become one of television’s most familiar faces, thanks to his unforgettable 18-season run as the quietly commanding Leroy Jethro Gibbs on NCIS. But the actor’s story stretches far beyond the walls of the Naval Criminal Investigative Service.

Born in Burbank to football great Tom Harmon and Hollywood actress Elyse Knox, Mark seemed destined for success. He followed his father’s athletic path as UCLA’s quarterback before switching gears and stepping into his mother’s world: acting. A small role on Ozzie’s Girls launched what would become a steady and deeply respected career.

Mark’s personal life is just as compelling. In 1987, he married actress Pam Dawber, forever remembered as Mindy opposite Robin Williams on the hit comedy Mork & Mindy. Their union has lasted more than 38 years – practically a Hollywood miracle – thanks in part to their commitment to privacy. Together they raised two sons, Sean and Ty, keeping them grounded and far from the spotlight.

As Mark’s career exploded with the success of NCIS, Dawber stepped back from acting to focus on their family. Mark, too, adjusted his schedule to be present at home, a choice he has called “non-negotiable.” In a fun twist, Dawber finally joined her husband onscreen in 2021, playing an investigative journalist who goes toe-to-toe with Gibbs.

Their sons have carved out creative paths of their own. Sean, once a stuntman, has acted in multiple projects and even portrayed young Gibbs on NCIS. In 2022, he married longtime partner Courtney Prather in a stunning Costa Rica ceremony where Mark proudly stood by his side. Meanwhile, Ty keeps a lower profile, pursuing screenwriting and working behind the scenes.

Through it all, Mark remains grateful – for his career, his fans, and above all, his family. “I’m proud of both our boys,” he has said. And after decades in the spotlight, it’s clear that the Harmons’ quiet strength is what keeps this Hollywood family thriving.
