After Years of Rumors, NCIS Confirms the Triumphant Return of a Fan-Favorite Star

After four long years, the wait is finally over – Mark Harmon is officially stepping back into the role that made him a television legend. This November, Harmon returns as Special Agent Leroy Jethro Gibbs in an explosive NCIS franchise crossover that promises to be one of the most unforgettable events in the show’s history.

Set to air Tuesday, November 11 – Veterans Day – the timing couldn’t be more perfect for the military-inspired series. For the first time ever, NCIS will unite with its upcoming prequel, NCIS: Origins, for a two-part story that bridges generations and brings Gibbs’ journey full circle.

The night kicks off with NCIS: Origins, where Austin Stowell portrays a young Gibbs in the 1990s, investigating the mysterious death of a naval officer in a small, tight-knit town. This pivotal case will test his instincts and shape the man he’s destined to become. Then, the story leaps forward to the present day on NCIS, where new evidence reopens the decades-old investigation – and pulls Gibbs out of retirement in Alaska.

Since leaving in Season 19, fans have wondered what became of Gibbs. Showrunners David J. North and Gina Lucita Monreal tease that his comeback will be “worth the wait,” hinting that Gibbs “isn’t alone anymore.”

Though Harmon never fully left the NCIS family – serving as an executive producer and narrator for NCIS: Origins – this marks his first on-screen return since 2021. His reappearance not only honors Gibbs’ legacy but also celebrates the enduring power of a series that continues to captivate audiences after more than two decades.

Social media has already erupted with excitement as fans count down the days to Gibbs’ long-awaited return. The crossover promises nostalgia, mystery, and heart – a perfect blend for old and new fans alike.

So mark your calendars: November 11 will be a night to remember. Gibbs is back, the past meets the present, and the legend of NCIS continues stronger than ever.
