Mark Harmon’s Retirement May Be Ending – What It Means for the Future of NCIS

Mark Harmon may be stepping away from retirement sooner than expected. According to insiders speaking to the National Enquirer, the NCIS icon has rediscovered his passion for acting after returning as Leroy Jethro Gibbs during the NCIS/NCIS: Origins crossover on November 11.

The 74-year-old star, who exited NCIS four years ago, reportedly had such a great time on set that it reminded him how much he missed the work. “He realized how much he loves being in front of the camera,” a source said. “Now he’s talking about wanting to act more.”

Retirement Didn’t Suit Him

Life off-screen hasn’t been easy for Harmon. Sources say his wife, Pam Dawber, noticed he wasn’t enjoying all the downtime. “He was bored out of his mind,” the insider claimed. “He missed the routine, the crew, the buzz of being on set.” Dawber is reportedly thrilled to see him energized again.

Looking Beyond NCIS

While more guest appearances aren’t off the table, Harmon is also exploring opportunities outside the NCIS universe. Encouraged by his recent work on the upcoming Freaky Friday sequel with Jamie Lee Curtis, he’s now eyeing movie roles.

“Mark says he’s still got plenty of gas left in the tank,” the insider shared. Though he’s not interested in another long-running series commitment, he is open to the right project to keep him inspired.

Turning 75 next year hasn’t slowed him down. If anything, his brief retirement has shown him that he isn’t ready to step away from acting – and fans may be seeing much more of Gibbs, and Harmon, in the near future.
