Why ‘NCIS’ & ‘NCIS: Sydney’ Are Taking Nearly 3 Months Off From New Episodes & When They’ll Return

UPDATE: After publication, it was revealed that NCIS: Sydney‘s episode has been delayed. TV Line reports a rerun will air instead. See below for the original info.

NCIS and NCIS: Sydney are going on hiatus after brand new episodes air on Tuesday (December 16).

At 8pm ET, the flagship series will air a new episode, “Heaven and Nature,” and then at 9pm ET, the Sydney spinoff will air an ep titled “South of Nowhere.”

After tonight’s eps, we won’t see new episodes of either show for weeks and weeks. Why is this happening and when will they return?

All three NCIS shows, including Origins, will return from their fall finale hiatuses on Tuesday, February 24, 2026.

So, why the long wait? While it may seem like a bummer, it’s actually very common for TV shows to take breaks for the Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year’s holidays.

Here’s the NCIS episode description for tonight: McGee and Torres try to recover a stolen truck filled with toys for the Navy’s annual Christmas drive while the truth about Parker’s mother is finally revealed. Also, Knight is given her first NCIS: Elite mission, which involves tracking down a former member of the team.

Here’s the logline for tonight’s NCIS: Sydney: The team races to an Antarctica research base to investigate why a climate scientist killed a colleague on Polar Night Eve – and make it out before their plane engine freezes and they’re trapped in darkness for six months.

Tune in tonight to CBS, and next day on Paramount+ to catch the action.
