After Many Years, This Longtime ‘NCIS’ Veteran Is Finally Returning to the Team

He’s back! After four long years away from the screen, Mark Harmon is officially stepping back into his legendary role as Special Agent Leroy Jethro Gibbs for a very special “NCIS” franchise crossover this November.

The highly anticipated event airs Tuesday, November 11 – fittingly on Veterans Day – and marks the first-ever crossover between “NCIS” and its prequel series “NCIS: Origins.”

The night kicks off with “Origins,” where Austin Stowell stars as a young Gibbs navigating the 1990s while investigating the mysterious death of a naval officer in a small town. Then, in a thrilling twist, the storyline jumps to the present day on “NCIS,” where the same case is suddenly reopened – and Gibbs returns to the action.

Although Harmon stepped away from his on-screen role in 2021 after 18 seasons, he’s remained deeply involved behind the scenes, serving as executive producer and narrator for “NCIS: Origins.”

Showrunners David J. North and Gina Lucita Monreal teased Gibbs’ return, saying, “Four years ago, Gibbs disappeared to Alaska to live a life of solitude. We know how much fans have missed him and wondered what he’s been up to. We don’t want to spoil anything, but let’s just say – Gibbs is no longer alone.”

Fans, get ready – Gibbs is back, and this is one NCIS event you won’t want to miss.
