NCIS Season 23 Twist Honors Jimmy Palmer In A Special Epis

When NCIS returns with season 23, viewers can look forward to the return of a 12-year-old twist honoring one of the show’s best and most deserving characters. Sure, the CBS military police procedural TV series has featured numerous beloved figures throughout its 22-year run. However, some NCIS characters have been neglected, meaning it’s time for them to step into the spotlight.

NCIS season 23 picks up where the previous finale left off, with Alden Parker reeling after his father’s death. His team will attempt to help him, but Parker won’t be exactly stable in the upcoming episodes. Parker and his need for vengeance won’t be the only storyline come season 23, though, as one character is expected to get their own episode.

NCIS Season 23 Will Feature A Day In The Life Episode Following Jimmy Palmer

Season 10 Had A Similar Ducky Episode

In exciting news, one NCIS season 23 episode will be all about Brian Dietzen’s Jimmy Palmer (per TV Insider). Said hour will function as a “day in the life” following the chief medical examiner, similar to how season 10, episode 16, “Detour,” revolved solely around Jimmy and Donald “Ducky” Mallard. As some may recall, Jimmy and Ducky got kidnapped during that episode.

So, 12 years after “Detour,” the series will bring the twist back just for Jimmy. Perhaps the upcoming episode of NCIS season 23 won’t exactly mirror it, though, and feature Jimmy being taken. As for what the Jimmy-centric hour entails, fans must wait to learn more. All that we know is that it centers around Jimmy and might be written by Dietzen.

Essentially, as NCIS executive producer Steven D. Binder told TV Insider, the season 23 episode will be structured as “the world through the eyes of Jimmy.” Whether that means the hour includes the team simply solving a case, but it’s filmed from Jimmy’s point-of-view, or that its main plotline concerns Jimmy is up in the air. Only time will tell the truth.

Jimmy Is The NCIS Character Who Most Deserves This Focus

Jimmy Is Worthy Of The Attention

Dietzen’s character getting his own episode is quite exciting because he deserves it (yes, even more so than Timothy McGee). A character who belongs to an ensemble cast receiving a “day in the life” segment is a special honor, and Jimmy is worthy of having one bestowed upon him. He’s one of NCIS‘s longest-running characters and the heart of the show, after all.

NCIS’ Most Heartbreaking Deaths

NCIS introduced Jimmy in season 1 as an assistant medical examiner. Now, he’s the chief medical examiner and has undergone a lot of growth in the police procedural series. Jimmy was the comic relief, and while he’s still funny, he’s taken much more seriously. Given his development, history, and likability, it’s only right that NCIS season 23 dedicate an episode to Jimmy.

NCIS season 23 premieres on Tuesday, October 14, at 8 pm ET on CBS, followed by the releases of NCIS: Origins season 2 at 9 pm ET and NCIS: Sydney season 3 at 10 pm ET.
