Thanks To Replacing Gibbs, NCIS Finally Found Something It Lost For 12 Years

For years, NCIS thrived on the strength of its ensemble cast, especially during the early days of Leroy Jethro Gibbs (Mark Harmon).

Now, after more than a decade, the show seems to have rediscovered that spark. Set to premiere during CBS’ October lineup, NCIS Season 23 will showcase a revitalized team dynamic under Gibbs’ successor, Alden Parker (Gary Cole).

While some longtime fans still miss Gibbs, others say the series’ new era feels fresh and energized. The loss of key characters like Tony DiNozzo (Michael Weatherly), Ziva David (Cote de Pablo), and eventually Gibbs left viewers wondering if NCIS could ever recapture its golden chemistry. But Parker’s leadership has ushered in a renewed sense of balance and camaraderie.

Now working alongside Timothy McGee (Sean Murray), Nick Torres (Wilmer Valderrama), and Jessica Knight (Katrina Law), Parker has forged a team dynamic that rivals the classic Gibbs/Tony/Ziva/McGee days. Each agent brings their own strengths, and together, they’ve developed a rhythm that feels authentic and engaging.

Unlike Gibbs’ stern, rule-bound leadership, Parker’s more collaborative approach has reshaped the MCRT into a true “ride-or-die” unit. While not everyone has warmed up to him, many fans agree-this new lineup has brought NCIS back to what it does best: teamwork, trust, and heart.
