Tony & Ziva Spinoff Looks Like The Story That NCIS Repeatedly Teased But Never Delivered

NCIS: Tony & Ziva will finally give the couple the story they deserve after years of waiting. The upcoming NCIS spinoff will be the first to center on a specific pairing, and Tony (Michael Weatherly) and Ziva (Cote de Pablo) are no doubt the best one to be featured. The couple has long been considered NCIS’ best romance, and a show dedicated to their lives following their long-awaited reunion will be something worth watching.

Tony and Ziva were great partners during the years they worked together in the MCRT, but the flagship series lacks something that the new spinoff will be able to make up for. That is, Tony and Ziva are never quite alone in the flagship. They share some moments here and there, but they are always part of a larger team — and NCIS: Tony and Ziva’s story is seeking to change that.

NCIS Never Fully Delivered On A Tony & Ziva Mission
Tony & Ziva Always Had Other Teammates To Rely On

Despite Tony and Ziva’s fantastic chemistry and rapport, we never get to see them working together on a private mission in NCIS. As partners, they sometimes visit suspects and crime scenes alone, and they have many moments where it is just the two of them working together. However, the rest of the MCRT members always join them soon after. The couple work together, but they never go on a shared mission.

This makes sense in the grand scheme of things because NCIS has always featured a team. Therefore, a mission that only required Tony and Ziva would have been difficult to achieve. However, it could have been done, making for a missed opportunity. Tony and Ziva are some of NCIS’ best characters and the fact that they never get to work on a mission together, alone, while relying only on their strengths, is something that can now be made up for in NCIS: Tony & Ziva.

NCIS is about family relationships, whether it’s the team’s camaraderie or the romances that develop among colleagues. Characters from several NCIS spin-offs frequently cross paths, resulting in a tight-knit community. While some shows have ended, characters such as Sam Hanna have returned, as shown in “NCIS: Hawai’i.” Other recognized figures, like as Dwayne “King” Cassius Pride from “NCIS: New Orleans,” could appear on other shows. CBS Entertainment President Amy Reisenbach and CBS Studios President David Stapf expressed openness to such crossovers if they serve the story organically. Scott Bakula, who portrayed Pride, hasn’t indicated whether he’d be up for a return, but the executives remain receptive to spin-offs featuring other characters.
