⚠️ Declining Health in Final Months

Pope Francis had been dealing with ongoing health issues in recent years. Just two weeks before his passing, he made a surprise appearance in St. Peter’s Square, his first public moment since a brief hospitalization.

 Archbishop of Buenos Aires

In 1998, Bergoglio was appointed Archbishop of Buenos Aires, and in 2001, he was made a Cardinal by Pope John Paul II.

He gained widespread respect for living modestly — cooking his own meals and taking public transport, even as a high-ranking Church official.
