After NCIS Season 22, Episode 15, I’m Convinced It’s Time To Add A Brand New MCRT Member

Over the years, NCIS has introduced various members of the MCRT team. Some of those has stuck around for multiple seasons, while others only stayed for one or two. In NCIS season 22, episode 15, a former character returned, and while controversial and annoying for some, it proved a problem that the show has right now. It’s time for someone new to join the MCRT team to shake things up a little, and NCIS season 23 will be the perfect time for that.

TV shows that go on for years are always at risk of going stale. The NCIS franchise tends to follow the same case-of-the-week format, making some of the cases easy to predict and solve. At the same time, we know the dynamics of the current team well, creating less chance for friction. A new MCRT member in NCIS will add excitement and freshness to keep the series on the air for longer.

NCIS Season 22, Episode 15 Sees Dale Sawyer Work With MCRT
Nick Torres’ Nemesis Came Back Into The Story

During NCIS season 22 episode 15, Agent Dale Sawyer (Zane Holtz) returned. As Nick Torres’ (Wilmer Valderrama) biggest nemesis on the series, it brought for some comedic storytelling throughout the case. Some of this came from just small moments, such as Torres trying to figure out how Sawyer can afford a pick-up truck despite being a night-shift worker. We got to see Torres change some of his habits to get the chance to own something similar, such as by ordering a black coffee instead of his favorite, more expensive coffee drink.

During the episode, Sawyer explained that he has been moonlighting as private security for a rich girl despite this being against the NCIS rules. As the truth came out, Sawyer was booted down to probie, forcing him to work with McGee (Sean Murray) and Torres, much to Torres’ delight. Of course, this did lead to more interaction between Sawyer and Torres, but it opened the door for something new and fun.

Sawyer’s Latest Return Proves That MCRT Can Benefit From A New Member
NCIS Needs To Change The Predictable Dynamic

Having the same predictable dynamic in a TV series leads to many people looking for something else to watch. We want excitement, and not something that is easy to guess and solve. TV shows like NCIS need to keep us on the edges of our seats, and something small like a cast shakeup can do that. Of course, there are always going to be fan favorites, but change can be good.

Rather than removing one team member to add in a new one, NCIS could add in a new addition to the current team.

Sawyer’s return to NCIS doesn’t even prove that a full shakeup is needed. Rather than removing one team member to add in a new one, NCIS could add a new addition to the current team. Right now, there are four field NCIS team members, but in the past, there have been five or six at times depending on the storyline. There are questions about where the MCRT members will sit in the bullpen, and it leads to more interesting dynamics as partnerships are switched around.

The dynamics within the team become less predictable, and the same arguments don’t happen over and over again. At the same time, the current NCIS cast has more space to grow. When Bishop (Emily Wickersham) left and Knight (Katrina Law) came in, both Torres and McGee had to adapt to the way Knight worked and the ideas that she brought to the table. When Gibbs left and Parker joined the team as the new leader, McGee, Torres, Palmer (Brian Dietzen), and Kasie (Diona Reasonover) all needed to get used to this new style of leadership.

A New Probie Can Resurrect Some Of The More Fun Aspects Of NCIS’ Earliest Years
Bring In A Character Who Can Make Mistakes And Learn

Specifically bringing in a new probie would be great for NCIS, as it would bring in memories of the earlier days of the series. During the first two seasons, DiNozzo and McGee had a cute dynamic as McGee learned the ropes of being a field agent. Then when Ziva came into the story, there was a chance for her to learn the American way of doing things after growing up in Israel. Both of these characters created humorous storylines as they learned and grew.

At the same time, a real probie can make mistakes to learn from them, leading to creating more complicated cases to solve.

It has been a long time since the series has had a real probie. Sawyer won’t count as he has already spent years working on the night shift, so the series would need to bring in someone young and fresh. This allows the other team members to step up more in leadership, and it shows us how far they have all come over the years in NCIS. At the same time, a real probie can make mistakes to learn from them, leading to creating more complicated cases to solve…

While some shows have ended, characters such as Sam Hanna have returned, as shown in “NCIS: Hawai’i.” Other recognized figures, like as Dwayne “King” Cassius Pride from “NCIS: New Orleans,” could appear on other shows.
