‘NCIS’ Season 22: 1 Star Returns After Being Introduced Several Seasons Ago!

NCIS is reintroducing us to a familiar face!

Episode 15 of Season 22, entitled “Moonlit,” just brought back someone from the show’s past.

They were first introduced in Season 18 of the show, and the character has so far appeared in Seasons 18, 19, and 20, not returning for Season 21.

Plus, they have a real-life friendship with one of the actors on the cast!

Special Agent Dale Sawyer (Zane Holtz) – RETURNED!

Dale Sawyer is also known as Torres’s (Wilmer Valderrama) NCIS frenemy, who will have ties to a Navy Lieutenant’s death.

Here’s the full episode summary: “After a Navy Lieutenant’s death reveals ties to Special Agent Sawyer (Holtz), Torres and Knight uncover a murder linked to a wealthy family. Meanwhile, Parker discovers a shocking connection between his mother’s death and Lily.”

For those who don’t remember, Dale Sawyer is an NCIS Special Agent assigned to the Navy Yard in Washington D.C.

Torres was originally worried Sawyer was there to replace him, and the two were at odds until Sawyer decided that, like Torres, he was also interested in undercover work.

Sawyer’s last appearance was in the show’s 450th episode back in 2023. At the time, the showrunner revealed that the actors are actually longtime buddies.

“We get a visit from Zane Holt, who has appeared in several episodes before as Agent Sawyer, but I don’t know if audiences know that he and Wilmer have worked together on other projects, so they are old and good friends…I didn’t have to manufacture any chemistry between the two. It was a director’s dream because they’ve been buddies for a long time, and it shows on-screen.”

NCIS is about family relationships, whether it’s the team’s camaraderie or the romances that develop among colleagues. Characters from several NCIS spin-offs frequently cross paths, resulting in a tight-knit community. While some shows have ended, characters such as Sam Hanna have returned, as shown in “NCIS: Hawai’i.” Other recognized figures, like as Dwayne “King” Cassius Pride from “NCIS: New Orleans,” could appear on other shows. CBS Entertainment President Amy Reisenbach and CBS Studios President David Stapf expressed openness to such crossovers if they serve the story organically. They emphasize the importance of narrative integrity over gimmicks. Scott Bakula, who portrayed Pride, hasn’t indicated whether he’d be up for a return, but the executives remain receptive to spin-offs featuring other characters.
