The elusive character, played by Mark Harmon, has been missing from the show since Season 19, choosing to remain in Alaska instead of returning to D.C. However, the latest episode revealed a Polaroid of Gibbs, McGee, and Ducky from Naktok Bay in Alaska, confirming that Gibbs is still residing in the 49th state.
The showrunners had previously been hesitant to reveal Gibbs’ whereabouts, wanting to maintain an air of mystery around his character. Co-showrunner Steven D. Binder likened Gibbs to being “everywhere” and “nowhere,” suggesting that he is floating around in the sky until he is called back to duty.
In a recent interview, Harmon joked that Gibbs might be sitting in a stream fishing in Alaska, hinting at the character’s peaceful retirement. Despite his absence from the show, fans can rest assured that Gibbs is still living his best life in the Alaskan wilderness.
