2025 continues to be one of the most exciting years for NCIS fans, and CBS\u2019s latest announcement continues to prove this year is one fans won\u2019t forget.<\/div>\n

2025 has been quite an exciting year to be an\u00a0NCIS\u00a0<\/em>fan. It\u2019s been a year of firsts for the franchise, which is ironic given the franchise has been going strong for over 20 years now.<\/p>\n

Of course, one of the biggest moments of the year has been the launch of the franchise\u2019s very first streaming spinoff,\u00a0NCIS: Tony and Ziva.\u00a0<\/em>The series brought about the returns of stars Michael Weatherly and Cote de Pablo as Anthony \u2018Tony\u2019 DiNozzo and Ziva David, making the pair\u2019s first time sharing the screen since\u00a0NCIS\u00a0<\/em>season 11 way back in 2013. The first season was a smashing success and fans are hoping to see the team back in action for a second season.<\/p>\n

In addition to the franchise expanding,\u00a0CBS made history\u00a0with its first-ever three-hour\u00a0NCIS\u00a0<\/em>prime-time block. The historic moment came as CBS shuffled its fall schedule around to move all three\u00a0NCIS\u00a0<\/em>shows to Tuesday night, giving fans a night of\u00a0NCIS\u00a0<\/em>shows which includes\u00a0NCIS, NCIS: Origins,\u00a0<\/em>and\u00a0NCIS: Sydney.\u00a0<\/em>This has paved the way for what will be another first for the franchise in the form of a\u00a0special\u00a0NCIS\u00a0<\/em>and\u00a0NCIS: Origins\u00a0<\/em>crossover,\u00a0which will mark the first crossover for\u00a0Origins\u00a0<\/em>and the first time we\u2019re going to see a crossover occur between two shows not set in the same timeline occur within the franchise.<\/p>\n

Now CBS has made yet another exciting announcement, one that fans have been longing for.<\/p>\n

CBS announces Mark Harmon\u2019s return to the NCIS franchise\u00a0<\/strong><\/h2>\n

As CBS prepares for its Veterans Day\u00a0NCIS\u00a0<\/em>and\u00a0NCIS: Origins\u00a0<\/em>crossover event, they\u2019re pulling out the big guns and have arranged for original\u00a0NCIS\u00a0<\/em>star Mark Harmon to make his return to the franchise within the crossover event.<\/p>\n

Harmon is set to reprise his role as Leroy Jethro Gibbs in the crossover event, marking his first time appearing on-screen in the franchise since his cameo in the\u00a0NCIS: Origins\u00a0<\/em>series premiere in 2024.<\/p>\n

Interestingly, Harmon\u2019s return will not take place in\u00a0NCIS<\/em>, but instead will unfold in the opening hour of the crossover event, taking place in\u00a0NCIS: Origins.\u00a0<\/em>While Harmon has narrated every episode of\u00a0NCIS: Origins\u00a0<\/em>and appeared in the pilot, it\u2019s been over four years since Harmon\u2019s last appearance on\u00a0NCIS\u00a0<\/em>following his exit at the top of season 19.<\/p>\n

While we know that Harmon will be coming back for the crossover event, it\u2019s unclear whether his paths will cross with any of the\u00a0NCIS\u00a0<\/em>cast members during his guest appearance in\u00a0NCIS: Origins.\u00a0<\/em>Fans are hoping we\u2019ll get to see Gibbs share the screen with some of his former colleagues in the crossover, but it remains to be seen if that will come to fruition. Either way, it\u2019s incredibly exciting to know that Harmon is coming back to the franchise, as it\u2019s always great to see Gibbs back on-screen in the\u00a0NCIS\u00a0<\/em>world.<\/p>\n

New details emerge about the NCIS and NCIS: Origins crossover<\/strong><\/h2>\n

In addition to confirmation that the crossover event between\u00a0NCIS\u00a0<\/em>and\u00a0NCIS: Origins\u00a0<\/em>will feature a guest appearance from Mark Harmon, we\u2019ll also get to see Roma Maffia back as special agent Vera Strickland. Maffia originated the role in a guest appearance back in\u00a0NCIS\u00a0<\/em>season 11, with Diany Rodriguez portraying a\u00a0younger version of the character in\u00a0NCIS: Origins<\/em>.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n

CBS has also released the synopsis for the crossover event, shining a light on the case that will bring the past and present-day teams together in an unexpected way.<\/p>\n

It all begins in\u00a0NCIS: Origins,\u00a0<\/em>airing at the special time of 8\/7c on November 11, \u201cwhen a naval officer mysteriously dies in the \u201890s, Gibbs (Austin Stowell) and the team travel to the small dust-blown town of Serenity, Calif., where they encounter secret-harboring residents, an uncooperative sheriff and an investigation that will reverberate for decades.\u201d<\/p>\n

The crossover action will continue directly after in\u00a0NCIS \u2013\u00a0<\/em>which will slide back an hour for the week, airing at 9\/8c after\u00a0Origins.\u00a0<\/em>As teased by the episode synopsis, \u201cA prison break by an inmate who had just three weeks left on a sentence compels the team to reopen the case of a naval officer\u2019s death that was originally investigated by Gibbs and Franks in the \u201890s, and enlist the help of retired special agent Vera Strickland (Roma Maffia). Also, the team has different views on what to include in a special Navy time capsule.\u201d<\/p>\n

Given the two shows are set decades apart from one another, it\u2019s going to be interesting to see how the shows pull off the crossover event. After all, it\u2019s not like in past\u00a0NCIS\u00a0<\/em>crossovers, when characters can easily cross over into one another\u2019s shows to work the case.
