<\/p>\nPam Dawber appeared as journalist Marcie Warren on the April 6 episode of NCIS. Because she is the wife of the series\u2019 star, Mark Harmon, the CBS show has tried several times over the years to convince the ex-Mork & Mindy star to co-star with her husband.<\/p>\n
This time, she finally said \u201cyes\u201d \u2013 but only on one condition.<\/p>\n
Harmon has been the star of NCIS since the show\u2019s inception in 2003. He has played Leroy Jethro Gibbs for nearly 18 seasons.<\/p>\n

NCIS producers tried several times to get Dawber on the show because his wife was the star of two different TV sitcoms for nearly 35 years in the 1980s. But she always had an excuse for saying \u201cno.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cThe show has been running for a century, and they\u2019ve approached me a few times,\u201d Dawber told Entertainment Weekly. \u201cI didn\u2019t want to do it, or I didn\u2019t value what they wanted me to do.\u201d<\/p>\n
Or it was just before Christmas and you were like, \u2018I can\u2019t do this.\u2019 My parents are visiting from out of town.\u201d I was interested in pursuing the business.\u201d<\/p>\n
Harmon and Dawber married in March 1987. She was the star of \u201cMy Sister Sam\u201d at the time. People had just named him the Sexiest Man Alive after three seasons on St. Elsewhere as Dr. Robert Caldwell.<\/p>\n
But after the couple nurtured their sons Sean in 1988 and Ty in 1992, Dawber decided to quit acting full-time so she could focus on raising her children.<\/p>\n
\u201cI was on a top-rated show.\u201d I had my own arrangement. I was able to perform on Broadway. I was able to participate in musical theater. Dawber told Good Housekeeping, \u201cI got to do cartoon voices.\u201d \u201cI did everything in this business until I had children and decided, \u2018I\u2019m not going to pursue that fame.’\u201d<\/p>\n
Dawber has worked on and off over the last three decades. Her most recent TV appearance, however, was in the reboot of The Odd Couple five years ago. When NCIS offered her the role of Marcie, the 69-year-old didn\u2019t think she\u2019d say yes. She \u201cfell in love with what they wrote\u201d when she read the script.<\/p>\n
Dawber eventually decided to accept the role, but she had one specific voow before she signed on the dotted line.<\/p>\n
NCIS: Pam Dawber admits she was nervous about her return to TV \u2013 \u201cWhat if I suck?<\/p>\n
\u201cBefore signing, I spoke with the writers and producers and told them, \u2018If this is a romantic interest, I\u2019m not interested.’\u201d \u201cThey didn\u2019t say anything about that, that\u2019s not where we\u2019re going with this,\u201d Dawber explained.<\/p>\n
Instead of a romantic relationship with Gibbs, Dawber\u2019s character is an investigative journalist looking into his indefinite suspension. She is aware of what occurred, but no one wishes to speak with her about it.<\/p>\n
\u201cSo she\u2019s trying to figure out exactly what happened because the man is currently involved in a major lawsuit.\u201d \u201cShe discovered Gibbs\u2019 location and attempted to approach him because she wants information,\u201d Dawber explained.<\/p>\n

<\/figure>\nDawber stated that she became anxious as soon as she agreed to the role. \u201cOh my God, am I going to do this?\u201d she wondered. She was nervous because everyone had big-screen HDTVs, which caused her \u201canxiety bubbles.\u201d She started to wonder if she\u2019d remember her lines and if she\u2019d \u201csuck.\u201d<\/p>\n
Dawber was able to film her four episodes despite her fears. But she says she won\u2019t watch the episodes on DVD because she doesn\u2019t want to be reminded of how old she is or how bad she feels about her hair.
