The showrunners shared in a joint email Q&amp;A with TVLine that they would have ended the island spinoff\u2019s third season differently if they had known the show wasn\u2019t returning to CBS.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf we\u2019d known it was coming, we probably wouldn\u2019t have ended the series on a cliffhanger,\u201d they explained. \u201cThe fact that the studio and the network didn\u2019t stop us makes it seem like they might not have seen it coming either. We loved our show and know other people loved it, too, but the TV business is a fickle mistress and one can\u2019t take business decisions personally. But it still stings.\u201d Despite the surprise, the trio said there is \u201ca lot to be proud of\u201d from the experience of making the CBS procedural, which starred Vanessa Lachey.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-2013\" src=\"https:\/\/ncisnews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/FB_IMG_1741376590640-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ncisnews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/FB_IMG_1741376590640-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/ncisnews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/FB_IMG_1741376590640-1024x683.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/ncisnews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/FB_IMG_1741376590640-768x512.jpg 768w, https:\/\/ncisnews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/FB_IMG_1741376590640.jpg 1080w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe did what we set out to do. We created a show with a strong female lead and a cast that reflected the diversity of Hawai\u2019i and the world. We told interesting Navy crime stories,\u201d they said. \u201cAll while maintaining a workplace where people could hopefully do their best work and be valued for it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>As fans may recall, season 3 of NCIS: Hawai\u2019i concluded with Maggie (Julie White) telling Jane (Lachey), \u201cJanie, you\u2019re probably going to need a drink for what\u2019s coming next\u201d in the final moments of what would become the series finale.<br \/>\nNash, Silber and Bosack say the conclusion of the cliffhanger was not yet \u201cnot fully fleshed out.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe had a general idea of where the Maggie story was going,\u201d they explained. \u201cIt would have eventually intersected with Jane Tennant\u2019s mother, but it was also going to move back into the dark world of Tennant\u2019s spy past, using those stories to increase our understanding of who Jane was, but also to learn more about her team in the process.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-20634\" src=\"https:\/\/en-news.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/NCIS-Hawaii-042624-0f85e6836e064b85bd1e567cf1f5a655.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1500\" height=\"1000\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The showrunners added that they were excited to continue telling stories on the show, saying, \u201cWe loved our repertoire of characters and we would have kept using them as much as we could. We were talking about Tennant\u2019s mom and Ernie\u2019s ex-wife, but other than following up on our cliffhanger, there were no \u2018musts\u2019 on the list.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur goals every season were the same: tells good stories with these great actors,\u201d they added.<br \/>\nAs for specific storylines, the trio said that it wasn\u2019t out of the question to see more wedding talk between Lucy Tara (Yasmine Al-Bustami) and Kate Whistler (Tori Anderson). \u201cWe hadn\u2019t fully landed on what was going to happen in season 4. But there would have been some movement.
