There’s still hope for that major cliffhanger to be resolved.
Although NCIS: Hawai’i was officially canceled a couple of months ago, one of its lead characters still has a compelling reason to return to the franchise’s original show.
Canceled in April, NCIS’s most successful spinoff ended abruptly, leaving fans with a significant cliffhanger that hinted at something crucial on the horizon for Jane Tennant. Despite the disappointing conclusion, Jane Tennant and the big news she received may still make a comeback via the original series. This time, however, the reason might be more personal than professional.
If the news teased at the end of NCIS: Hawai’i’s season 3 pertains to developments in the head department, Vanessa Lachey’s Jane Tennant could return, potentially reigniting her relationship with Nick Torres. The crossover between NCIS season 19 and NCIS: Hawai’i season 1 hinted at a possible romance between the characters, especially since Nick Torres was recovering from his breakup with Ellie Bishop.
Given their on-screen chemistry, Jane might seek a position at the Major Case Response Team (MCRT) to get closer to Nick. This seems plausible, considering she was the first female team leader in Hawaii’s NCIS department. Bringing Jane back through a potential romance with Nick Torres and possibly offering her a role in the head department—especially if Jessica Knight leaves the MCRT in season 22—seems like a fitting way to resolve her storyline after the cancellation of NCIS: Hawai’i.
While Jane may not need to be a lead character, providing a proper conclusion to her story is the least the CBS police procedural franchise can do at this point.
NCIS season 22 is set to premiere on CBS this fall.
